The Panhellenic Council is the governing body for 14 sorority chapters on campus. Twelve chapters are associated with the National Panhellenic Conference (an umbrella organization for 26 international women's fraternities and sororities), one chapter is a local chapter, and one chapter is a multicultural asian-interest associate chapter.
The council serves to promote CalGreeks’ core values: leadership, scholarship, friendship, and service.
LEADERSHIP: Members of sororities at UC Berkeley are given countless opportunities to develop leadership skills. Each chapter has a board of student officers elected each year. Many of our chapter women are also members of campus organizations including student government, Cal Athletics, the Cal Band, the University Orchestra, Pre-Law and Pre-Med professional organizations, and dozens of other teams and clubs.
SCHOLARSHIP: Panhellenic women consistently achieve higher GPAs than non-Greek students. In addition, each chapter offers academic support, local and national scholarships, and ample study space for its members.
FRIENDSHIP: Friendship is at the core of Panhellenic life. The bonds between chapter women start in college, but truly last a lifetime.
SERVICE: Each chapter is committed nationally to a specific philanthropic organization for which they hold annual charity events. In addition, Panhellenic women participate in campus-wide charity events including Relay for Life, Race for the Cure, and The Berkeley Project, among others.
